How many pool permits are there, really?
In-ground pools need a building permit in every BC city we cover; above-ground pools and most hot tubs need only an electrical permit, which isn’t published as open data. So the count on this page is in-ground pools — the biggest jobs — plus the $1.5M+ new homes most likely to add one.
I only do cleaning and maintenance. Is this for me?
Yes. Every new pool is a new weekly client, and you’ll know about it months before the water goes in. Watch for pools and they’re pinned to the top of your Wednesday list, and the Library lists every home in your radius that already has a permitted pool, back to 2017 in Vancouver, grouped by neighbourhood for route planning.
Do I get the homeowner’s name or phone?
No. You get the site address, the permit details and the builder company. Personal names, phones and emails are removed.
Which cities?
Vancouver, Surrey, New Westminster, Maple Ridge and Victoria today, with more added by permit volume. Surrey and Vancouver produce most pool permits.
